The Directorate works closely with state agencies and water utilities, stakeholders and the community as part of its approach to securing sustainable water supplies for greater Sydney and the lower Hunter.
Through this process, the Directorate has produced balanced, effective long-term water plans for greater Sydney in 2004, 2006 and 2010, and for the lower Hunter in 2014. This work is supported by an Independent Water Advisory Panel that provides strategic and technical advice on urban water planning for the two regions.
In addition to developing water plans for greater Sydney and the lower Hunter, the Directorate provides advice on NSW urban water policy and reforms. It also implements the Water for Life engagement and education program.
