Have your say on the Lower Hunter Water Plan

A new water plan is being developed for the lower Hunter region. The Lower Hunter Water Plan (LHWP) will identify a mix of water supply and demand measures that will ensure water security in droughts, as well as reliable supplies to meet the region’s longer-term needs.

A new water plan is being developed for the lower Hunter region. The Lower Hunter Water Plan (LHWP) will identify a mix of water supply and demand measures that will ensure water security in droughts, as well as reliable supplies to meet the region’s longer-term needs.

The Metropolitan Water Directorate - a specialist water planning group within the NSW Department of Finance and Services – is leading a whole of government approach to developing the plan.

A dedicated LHWP project team has been established in Newcastle and is working closely with government agencies, Hunter Water, other stakeholders and the community.

The NSW Government has also established an Independent Water Advisory Panel of water experts who are overseeing the plan’s development.

Along with government and industry stakeholders, the community has a real role to play in developing a plan that provides lasting solutions for the lower Hunter.

There will be three phases of public consultation throughout the planning process. The Lower Hunter Water Plan is due to be completed in late 2013.
